Lord Howe island — Explore the Large Variety of Coral Reef into the Tasman Sea

Lord Howe island in the Tasman Sea between Australia and New Zealand, 2/3 are covered by forests is the most isolated nature reserve on the planet. The World Heritage-listed site is a paradise of rainforests and beaches and recreations span mountain walks and exploration of the world’s southernmost coral reef. Belongs to New South Wales located 700km north of Sydney, short flight from Australia’s east coast transports visitors to a real ‘treasure island’. There are less than 400 permanent residents on the island and welcoming just 400 visitors at any one time. The best time to go to the island is from September to May, all event accommodation air tickets need to be booked at least half a year in advance.

Accommodation has various apartments, cottage, treehouse.

  1. Capella Lodge (2km away from Lord Howe island airport) is the most recommended, you can enjoy the sunset of Gower Mountain while enjoying drinks and desserts.
  2. Blue Lagoon Lodge (5km away from Lord Howe island airport) is located moments away from shops, restaurants and pristine beaches.
  3. Pinetrees Lodge (3km away from Lord Howe island airport) which is 6th generation run family business on the beautiful island of Lord Howe, famous for its gourmet food.
  4. Arajilla Retreat (6km away from Lord Howe island airport) only minutes from the beautiful Old Settlement Beach.

How to get there:

Qantas has a flight from Sydney to Lord Howe island, about 2 hours. There are also flights from Port Macquarie or Newcastle every week. The flight time is approximately 2 hours. Eastern Air (note that the checked baggage allowance of this airline is 17kg) there are also flights every week from port Macquarie or Newcastle. The flight time is approximately 2 hours. Gold Coast can also fly directly to the island, flight time about 2 hours. There are currently no commercial passenger boats that go to Lord Howe island, the only other option is to fly.

What to do in the island:

  1. Is a great spot for divers enjoy snorkeling, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). Never swim alone at night always check water dept and signs regarding advice on water conditions and pay attention to the advice of the lifesavers and safety signs.
  2. Ball’s Pyramid is unique environment it is a remnant of the volcanic plug and 11km away from Lord Howe island is a point of interest to see the island from the mountain. Boat tours experience the breathtaking wonder of Lord Howe island.
  3. Bird Watching, there are paradise of birdwatchers with more than 130 species of seabirds. Other sports include yoga, golf, glass bottom boat, North Bay adventure, Mountain Gower hiking. Commercial fishing is not allowed in the marine park surrounding the island and a diverse range of species living in the area.

Other things to note: From January 2022, the Lord Howe Island Tourism Association has consulted with its accommodation, food and beverage and tour operator members and would like to strongly advise visitors to Lord Howe. Requirement for Proof of Negative COVID-19 Test negative PCR or RAT test in the 24 hours prior to arrival on the island.
